60The longest book in the Bible is the Psalms with 150 chapters or a collection of 150 hymns and prayers which came together over a thousand year period written by several men known as psalmists. David wrote 73 of the psalms more than the other psalmists. Fifty of the psalms are anonymous.
The Psalms are considered the most famous collection of religious poetry.The Psalms were meant to be sung. They comprise anguish, praise, doubt, thanksgiving, compassion, longing, repentance, and public worship.
The Psalms are just as meaningful today as when they were first written.
The Psalms were a major part of Israel's worship. In our churches we sing a song here and a song there; however, Israel's worship was based on the singing of the Psalms through the worship service.
- Psalms is the longest book in the Bible with 150 chapters.
- Each psalm can be read independently. It doesn't depend on the preceding psalm and the psalm that follows for you to enjoy and be edified by the particular psalm you are reading.
- Psalm 1 is the introductory psalm.
- Psalm 150 is the concluding psalm.
- The Psalms are divided into five books ending with a doxology.
- Psalm 150 is a doxology ending all five books. A doxology is a short hymn of praise consisting of creation, praise, God, eternal language and ends in "Amen."
- The word "selah" appears in some of the psalms and shoul not be read aloud in corporate worship.
- The Psalms do not rhyme like in some songs or poems.
- Psalms 146-150 are called Hallelujah or Praise Psalms because the first and last line of each psalm is "Praise ye the Lord."
- Many psalms address particular concerns. For instance, Psalm 4 can be read if one cannot fall asleep at night. Psalm 23 is usually read at funerals for comfort. Psalm 51 is read for repentance over personal sins; Psalm 91 is the Christian's emergency psalm for safety and protection. Psalm 100 for thanksgiving; Psalm 103 for God's benefits; and Psalms 3, 5, 6, 10, 59 are a few of the psalms to read when in trouble.

Thank you for writing about this much treasured book in the Bible that pertains to every aspect of life. The timeless wisdom of this book is evinced by its applicability across time and space. The Book of Psalms is a source of comfort and inspiration for me, as well as for many, many others --- yesterday, today, tomorrow. I treasure Psalm 23 as my lifelong companion, but one that I have come to appreciate so much lately is Psalm 8; after my mother passed away, my sister found that it was one of the psalms bookmarked in my mother's Bible. This hub is truly a special treat.

Psalms must surely be one of the favorite books in the Bible. Reading some of the praise/worship psalms is one of the most effective pick-me-ups I know of.
Operation Desert Storm was the first war I experienced where I actually had a close friend involved in combat. I prayed Psalm 91 over him daily. Today he's still alive, still a Marine, and still a proud American.
